Even the most elaborate of fashion statements, Stella McCartney's collection promises more. This time, the product speaks out against the alarming rates at which half of the world's bird species face extinction.
Revealed in Paris with an eyeline to the Eiffel Tower, McCartney had a vow for a green agenda throughout her collection. Quite impressively, 91% of all materials used came in the line of eco-friendly relations: vegan leather for instance, but also organic crinkled or organic silk, lead-free crystals, or jewelry from gold and silver recovered from electronics and medical waste. The show started off with the latest iconic item from McCartney: The Stella Ryder—the curved vegan handbag inspired by the breathtaking silhouette of a horse, one of her favorite animals.
Sustainability was the big theme but McCartney also honored women who have defined her. Oversized suits and blazers, closely cut with broad shoulders, paid homage to the expertise of Savile Row tailoring and the masculine form. The column knit dresses and even vintage bodysuits got nods to some European-season trends. The runway also featured Stella McCartney x adidas Rasant vegan sneakers, reimagined versions of lace-up running shoes, and her signature style of cool denim.
